How To Make A Smoothie Without Milk
It might surprise you when I say that more often than not, I make my smoothies without milk.
Sure, sometimes I make fruit based smoothies with milk and yogurt, but oftentimes I do not use milk at all in my smoothies, and sometimes no liquid either!
This guide will help you find out which flavors work best in a smoothie so that you can make delicious smoothies without milk at home!
Tips: Buying Frozen Fruits
Before we get to the point, there are some basic rules you need to know when it comes to buying frozen fruits. First of all, not all fruits can be frozen. Fruits like avocado change colors, textures, and even taste once theyre frozen. Other fruits like bananas need to be consumed within hours from the time they were put into the freezer. If you happen to find these fruits sold frozen at the supermarket, chances are lots of preservatives and additives added to the packaging process. Needless to say, those are not healthy options.
Another thing you should note is to pick only 100% natural frozen fruits. No need to add preservatives or additives since the sugars they contain are more than enough to keep them fresh in a frozen state. Next time you shop for frozen fruits, take a little bit of time to check what it says on the packaging. Only put them in your shopping cart if it is 100% natural.
The most recommended frozen fruits are strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, pineapples, watermelon, cherries, grapes, and mangos. They contain enough water and sugars to keep them fresh. Besides, their tastes remain the same even after being frozen for days. Some supermarkets also sell frozen fruits in their blended form. Those are good alternatives to whole or sliced frozen fruits. Just keep in mind to make sure they are 100% natural and not expired.

Why Can You Make A Smoothie With Water
The simple reason why you can make a smoothie with water is because water is a liquid.
I recently wrote a whole blog post that covered whether or not you could make a smoothie without liquid.
The takeaway from that post was that you really cant. You are not going to get a smoothie if you simply blend up fruits and vegetables. What you will get is either a frozen slushy or some sort of frozen fruit sorbet.
Liquid is key to turning fruits and vegetables into a smoothie. You need to add some liquid. It doesnt have to be water, but it should be liquid.
The liquid helps in breaking down the solids. Without the liquid, the solids wont breakdown into a smoothie like consistency.
It doesnt mean that you have to use water in your smoothie, but it does mean that you have to use a liquid.
The reason that water works is that it is a liquid.
Coconut water works because it is a liquid. Nut milk, almond milk, regular milk are all liquids.
The main similarity to all of these items is that they are liquids.
Why Not Freeze Your Smoothie
Most people think that putting a blended smoothie directly into the freezer is a good idea when they are finished making it.
Unfortunately, this actually stops many nutrients from being able to enter the body because they solidify in these ice cubes which can prevent them from reaching cells.

How To Make A Smoothie Bowl
I freeze leftover fruits in a snack size ziplock bag, which is about a serving of fruit. That way I always have frozen fruit ready to go. You can also buy frozen fruit from your local store.
For a full bowl, I use 2 snack bags, two of the same fruit, like banana, or a blend of banana and mango, for example.
Then I add non-dairy milk like almond milk or coconut milk, especially the canned coconut milk, because it adds a rich and creamy texture to the smoothie bowls! What you want is a texture kinda like frozen yogurt or sorbet. Umm, yeah, its pretty much disguised sorbet, lets be honest haha!
Then I go to town with toppings, especially fresh fruit and some superfoods, like shredded coconut, chia seeds and hemp seeds, to start my morning with fuel!

How To Make The Best Banana Smoothie
My basic smoothie recipe calls for four simple ingredients:
Banana I use one banana to make one large or two smaller smoothies. For the best tasting smoothie, use a ripe banana. For the creamiest banana smoothie, use frozen banana slices. Ive shared how I freeze bananas for smoothies below.
Half an orange When I have oranges in the house, I love adding them to my morning smoothie. It adds extra vitamin C and tropical flavor. If you dont have oranges on hand, dont worry, you can substitute other fruits like mango, pineapple, and berries.
Plain or Greek yogurt I dont always add yogurt to my smoothies, but when I do have it in the fridge, adding a spoonful ensures a protein-packed and creamy smoothie. For a smoothie without yogurt, add a little extra fruit or include veggies like spinach or kale.
Water or milk To help the ingredients blend, I like adding a splash of liquid to the blender. For a smoothie without milk, use water. It still tastes amazing. For more creaminess add milk .
To make the smoothie, I add everything into a blender and then blend until smooth. For an icy cold smoothie, throw in a handful of ice or use frozen fruits.

Defrosting In The Refrigerator
The frozen fruits can be defrosted in the refrigerator. This is a lengthy process but it works. Typically it takes 6 to 8 hours. If youre in hurry then you shouldnt follow this. If you have time then its okay.
Its better to take only the amount of frozen fruits you need to use. The thawed fruits shouldnt be refrozen. So try not to take an excessive amount of fruits. Otherwise, the leftover fruits will be wasted.
Put the fruits in a bowl or on a plate to avoid dripping. Then keep them in the refrigerator.
Leave the fruits inside the refrigerator for 6 to 8 hours per pound.
Turn the package or fruits every hour to accelerate the process. If you dont do this the fruits may not thaw equally. Moreover, it will take more time.
Note: Keep the temperature of your refrigerator at 40°F or less during the whole process.
Is It Enough For Breakfast
The danger of smoothies is that its very easier to not add enough to them to keep you full for the morning. These bowls however are packed full of healthy ingredients that are full of fiber. One bowl is around 300 calories so its a perfect breakfast choice.
Healthy smoothie bowls are one of my go to breakfasts on busy mornings. Kids love them just as much as the grown ups and they are so easy to make. Are you going to jump n the smoothie bowl train?!
